China Builds New Kuwait Port for Global Trade | Mariner News
Kuwait is set to dramatically enhance its maritime capabilities with a significant new port project. The Kuwait new port, known as Mina Mubarak Al-Kabeer, is being designed and built in collaboration with China, marking a pivotal step for regional and global trade. This ambitious $4 billion infrastructure development is integral to Kuwait’s Vision 2035 and China’s expansive Belt and Road Initiative, promising to transform the country into a vibrant economic hub. The agreement was formalized, with China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) taking the lead.
Driving Regional and Global Trade
Once operational in 2026 with four berths, the Mina Mubarak Al-Kabeer port is envisioned as a major new center for regional and international trade. It will strategically focus on fostering manufacturing and light industry, creating new economic avenues beyond oil. This development positions Kuwait as a crucial transit point, leveraging its historic assets and strategic location to facilitate greater commercial exchange across the Middle East and beyond.
Boosting Kuwait’s Economic Future
The port project is a cornerstone of Kuwait’s broader strategy for economic diversification, aiming to reduce the nation’s reliance on hydrocarbon revenues. Chinese expertise and technology, through CCCC, will be integrated into the design and construction, marking CCCC’s first Middle East port project partially adhering to Chinese standards. With the first phase already 50 percent complete, this strategic infrastructure investment signifies a strong commitment to long-term economic growth and a robust future for Kuwait.
