CFARER launches as independent maritime software brand

CFARER has officially launched as an independent maritime software brand, formerly known as DNV Maritime Software, after being spun out from its parent company.

DNV has retained majority ownership, while Wilhelmsen Port Services, a shipping company, joins as a strategic minority shareholder.

Wilhelmsen Port Services’ digital arm, Diize, has been placed within CFARER.

As part of this collaboration, Diize’s port clearance solution, Always on Board, is being incorporated into the CFARER portfolio alongside ShipManager, Navigator Port, and Hull Manager.

According to the new brand, all products will continue to be supported, with no interruption to customers and the delivery of services.

CFARER CEO Erik Staubo said: “This is a structural shift, not just a rebrand. CFARER is now a standalone business with its own leadership, strategy, and commercial direction.”

“By operating independently, CFARER can focus entirely on building better software, responding faster to user needs, and partnering more openly across the industry. Our goal is to ensure continuity for existing users while creating more room for innovation and growth.”

The new brand is stated to have three aspects: DNV as the majority shareholder, bringing governance and maritime expertise; Wilhelmsen Port Services, enhancing CFARER’s capabilities with its global network and “operational expertise” through the contribution of Diize; and Papillon, an operator-investor and company builder specialising in maritime technology, spearheading the company’s operations and growth strategy for the long term.

CFARER’s leadership will operate independently with a global expansion mandate. It is open to new partnerships and ownership changes, and aims to lead in maritime software through industry collaboration.

Wilhelmsen Port Services vice president for strategy, M&A and business development Michael Satzger said: “We are proud to join forces with DNV and for the Diize team to become part of CFARER – a powerful step forward in our mission to drive smarter and safer operations, both at sea and in port. Together, we are committed to building solutions that serve the real needs of seafarers – placing them where they belong: at the heart of shipping.”

Navigator Port and Always on Board by Diize are now brought under the CFARER Port Clearance umbrella.

Ship Manager, a technical fleet management solution, and Hull Manager, which specialises in inspection and hull integrity, have planned innovations set for 2025.

This year, all products are expected to be offered in both cloud and classic versions to enable users to choose the most suitable option for their needs in the digital landscape.
