Capital Ship Management Delivers LNG-Ready VLCC with Scrubber | Mariner News
Greece-based Capital Ship Management recently announced the delivery of a state-of-the-art, scrubber-fitted VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier), the Aristotelis II. This significant addition to their fleet is not only equipped with an open-loop scrubber system for immediate sulfur emission compliance but also boasts an LNG-ready notation, marking a significant step towards sustainable maritime operations. This strategic move highlights the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility and future-proofing its fleet in the evolving shipping landscape.
Advancing Emission Compliance in Shipping
The Aristotelis II, a 307,000-dwt crude carrier built by Hengli Heavy Industries in China, incorporates an advanced open-loop scrubber system. This technology is crucial for meeting stringent IMO 2020 regulations on sulfur emissions, ensuring cleaner operations and reduced environmental impact. The integration of this system allows the vessel to operate efficiently while adhering to global environmental standards, enhancing the fleet’s overall environmental performance.
Paving the Way for LNG Propulsion
Beyond immediate compliance, the LNG-ready designation (GR(NG,A) notation) for the Aristotelis II is a forward-thinking feature. This means the vessel has been structurally and technically prepared for a future conversion to liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion. This proactive approach by Capital Ship Management underscores their vision for long-term sustainability, embracing cleaner fuel alternatives that promise reduced carbon footprints and enhanced operational flexibility in the coming decades for their crude carrier fleet.
