Bureau Veritas introduces SaaS for maritime fleet management
Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore has introduced OptiCARBON, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform aimed at optimising energy, fuel, and compliance costs for maritime fleets.
The platform targets cruise and passenger vessel owners, operators, and fleet managers, providing a comprehensive solution to enhance energy efficiency and reduce regulatory complexities.

OptiCARBON functions as a predictive decision-making tool, allowing users to tailor decarbonisation strategies for various fleet sizes within the ferry, roll-on/roll-off (RoRo), and cruise sectors.
It will initially focus on ferries, cruise ships, and RoRo vessels, with plans for future expansion into other maritime segments.
The platform employs Bureau Veritas’ precise digital vessel models to simulate a range of operational, regulatory, and financial scenarios.
It will enable users to evaluate different pathways for emissions reduction while considering cost and compliance implications.
The modular and scalable nature of OptiCARBON is said to allow for customisation according to the specific needs of different vessel types and fleet sizes.
Bureau Veritas industrials and commodities executive vice president Matthieu de Tugny said: “The maritime industry is under mounting pressure to decarbonise.
“With the EU ETS, FuelEU Maritime, and the likely introduction of the IMO’s Net-Zero Framework, it’s not just compliance costs that are rising but also operational complexity and uncertainty.”
The company has already implemented OptiCARBON with Brittany Ferries, where it provides accurate mapping and compliance simulations to assist with the company’s EU Emissions Trading System (EU-ETS) obligations.
The initial results indicate that integrating data-driven forecasting with the company’s technical advisory arm Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore’s maritime consulting expertise can enhance long-term strategic planning for maritime companies, according to Bureau Veritas.

In June this year, Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore launched the Augmented Surveyor 3D (AGS 3D), an AI-driven inspection tool for ships and offshore structures.
This tool leverages AI and machine learning to improve anomaly detection and localisation, streamlining the inspection process.
