Bureau Veritas Approves Jiangnan Green Ship Designs | Mariner News

Trust Score: 95

Bureau Veritas has officially approved Jiangnan Shipyard’s innovative green ship designs, marking a significant stride towards sustainable shipping. These pioneering approvals cover crucial advancements in alternative fuels and efficient vessel operations, reinforcing the maritime industry’s commitment to decarbonization. The collaboration between Bureau Veritas (BV) and CSSC Jiangnan Shipyard aims to translate ambitious emission reduction targets into tangible, practical solutions for the global fleet.

Advancing Hydrogen and Ammonia Transport

Among the key approvals is a 20,000 m3 liquid hydrogen carrier, engineered for the safe, long-distance transport of green hydrogen. This design features a specialized cargo system to manage hydrogen’s cryogenic temperatures and minimize boil-off. BV also endorsed a very large ammonia carrier capable of regasifying cargo for direct pipeline feed, offering enhanced flexibility in ammonia supply. These developments are critical for expanding infrastructure for future clean maritime fuels.

Enhancing LNG Efficiency and Ammonia Fuel Systems

Further strengthening their green portfolio, Jiangnan Shipyard received approval for a new, more efficient LNG carrier design. This vessel aims to significantly cut fuel consumption, reduce emissions, and mitigate methane slip, supporting a lower-carbon LNG transport pathway. Additionally, BV approved Jiangnan’s advanced ammonia fuel supply system, designed to safely store and deliver ammonia as a marine fuel in strict accordance with IMO guidelines.

Paving the Way for Sustainable Marine Solutions

These comprehensive approvals underscore the urgent industry drive to adopt cleaner technologies. By validating these advanced ship and fuel system designs, Bureau Veritas and Jiangnan Shipyard are actively accelerating the transition to a more environmentally responsible shipping sector, paving the way for a future powered by sustainable marine solutions.
