A bulk carrier was struck by an unknown projectile and caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz early today, with two casualties reported and all crew evacuated. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported the incident at 06:30 UTC, confirming the vessel was on fire and adrift after being hit. UKMTO advised all vessels operating in the area to exercise extreme caution and report any suspicious activity.

Martin Kelly, head of advisory at EOS Risk Group, identified the vessel as an “Antigua & Barbuda Bulk Carrier” that was abandoned following what he described as an “Iranian attack” in the Strait of Hormuz.

This attack marks another serious incident in a region that has seen several ships come under fire since the Iran war began in late February.
