Babcock LGE Unveils EcoAPEX Reliquefaction Tech for Gas Carriers | Mariner News
Babcock LGE has launched its new ecoAPEX reliquefaction technology, designed to deliver significant efficiency improvements and energy reductions for liquefied gas carriers.
The system, which combines cargo and fuel system processes with high-capacity compression technology, is reported to enhance reliquefaction efficiency by up to 33%. Concurrently, it is expected to reduce reliquefaction energy consumption by approximately 25%.
Beyond energy savings, the ecoAPEX technology is also stated to cut loading and cooldown times by 14%. This reduction in port operational time could directly translate into improved vessel turnaround, potentially increasing fleet utilization and optimizing charter party economics for operators.
The introduction of ecoAPEX by Babcock LGE, building on six decades of experience in liquefied gas systems and over 650 reference systems worldwide, signals an evolving standard in gas carrier operational efficiency. The technology’s ability to lower energy expenditure and accelerate port operations could influence newbuild specifications and retrofit decisions as owners and charterers increasingly prioritize operational costs and environmental performance.
