Axpo Global Expands Genoa LNG Bunkering Capacity | Mariner News
Axpo Global is significantly enhancing its maritime fuel services by expanding its Genoa LNG bunkering capacity with the deployment of a state-of-the-art new vessel. This strategic move aims to bolster cleaner shipping operations across the Italian coastline and throughout the Western Mediterranean, providing crucial infrastructure for sustainable maritime transport. This expansion reinforces Axpo’s commitment to delivering advanced, environmentally friendly energy solutions to the shipping industry.
Introducing the Green Pearl: Advanced LNG Bunkering Vessel
The centerpiece of this expansion is the “Green Pearl,” a highly anticipated 7,500 m3 small-scale LNG tanker. Commissioned in 2023 and chartered by Axpo Global under a ten-year agreement, the vessel is designed for maximum operational flexibility. It supports both ship-to-ship and truck-to-ship bunkering, ensuring efficient and rapid fuel delivery for various vessel types. This capability significantly streamlines the supply chain for liquefied natural gas.
Boosting Regional Energy Security and Sustainable Shipping
The “Green Pearl” will transport and distribute both conventional LNG and bio-LNG, significantly enhancing the speed and efficiency of Axpo’s small-scale LNG bunkering services. This development is pivotal for supporting Italy’s ambition to become a leading regional LNG hub, contributing directly to the nation’s energy security. By offering cleaner maritime fuel options, Axpo Global is driving the transition towards reduced emissions in the shipping sector. This ensures vessels operating in the region have access to vital, greener fuel.
