Avikus to Supply Autonomous Navigation to 40 HMM Vessels | Mariner News
HD Hyundai’s autonomous shipping unit, Avikus, has sealed a significant deal to supply its advanced autonomous navigation system, HiNAS Control, to 40 vessels operated by shipping giant HMM. This landmark agreement marks the largest single contract for the innovative system to date, underscoring a pivotal shift towards smart, self-operating maritime technology.
Advancing Maritime Safety and Efficiency
The HiNAS Control system differentiates itself by offering not only superior route recognition and decision support but also direct vessel control functions. Unlike conventional systems that primarily offer navigation assistance, Avikus’s solution enhances maritime safety by independently selecting optimal routes and facilitating autonomous journeys without constant direct crew intervention. This groundbreaking technology is also engineered to improve fuel efficiency by maintaining optimal speeds throughout voyages.
Pioneering the Future of Smart Shipping
This substantial deployment across HMM’s fleet highlights the growing confidence in smart shipping solutions. The technology’s ability to mitigate long-term crew shortages and reduce operational costs positions Avikus and HMM at the forefront of the digital transformation within the shipping industry. To date, Avikus has successfully supplied its navigation systems to approximately 350 large vessels globally, with over 100 retrofitted with this cutting-edge technology, reinforcing its leadership in autonomous maritime solutions.
