Auramarine, a leading provider of marine technology, has secured a significant contract to supply methanol fuel systems for three new RoPax vessels ordered by shipping firm Finnlines. The advanced fuel systems will power Finnlines’ newbuilds, set to operate on the vital Finland-Germany route upon their delivery.

Driving Green Shipping with Methanol

The three state-of-the-art RoPax vessels will be constructed by China Merchants Weihai shipyard, with Auramarine slated to deliver the innovative methanol fuel supply systems between autumn 2026 and winter 2027. These next-generation ships are scheduled for delivery in 2028 and 2029. Juha Ahia, Manager Newbuilding & Projects at Finnlines, expressed enthusiasm for partnering with Auramarine, highlighting the importance of equipping their fleet with advanced, environmentally friendly fuel technology.

The Future of Marine Fuel Systems

The maritime industry is increasingly embracing alternative fuels, with methanol emerging as a key solution for decarbonization. According to DNV data, the global methanol-fuelled fleet currently comprises 93 ships, with a projected increase of 354 vessels by 2030. This surge reflects a growing demand for both methanol and biomethanol, positioning Auramarine’s expertise in marine fuel systems at the forefront of this green transition. This contract solidifies Auramarine’s role in advancing future fuel solutions for the global fleet.
