Anemoi & Cosco Renew Rotor Sail Deal: Boost Green Shipping | Mariner News
Anemoi Marine Technologies and Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry (CHI) have renewed their crucial framework agreement for rotor sail installations. This extended partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of wind-assisted propulsion, marking a significant step towards greener shipping and enhanced fuel efficiency across the global maritime industry. The collaboration solidifies a shared commitment to sustainable vessel operations.
Driving Maritime Decarbonization
The initial 2022 agreement saw nine successful rotor sail installations, including projects for very large ore carriers (VLOCs) owned by Vale and U-Ming at CHI Zhoushan. These innovative cylindrical systems harness the Magnus effect to generate additional thrust, drastically cutting bunker fuel consumption and reducing harmful emissions. This proven technology directly supports the maritime sector’s decarbonization goals.
Streamlined Turnkey Solutions
Under the updated pact, shipowners selecting Anemoi’s wind-assisted propulsion systems will benefit from CHI’s comprehensive services. These services span from initial integration design to full onboard installation across CHI’s extensive network of subsidiary shipyards in China. This renewed focus on a coordinated, turnkey approach simplifies the process for both retrofit projects and newbuilds, making the transition to sustainable shipping more accessible and efficient for customers.
Nick Contopoulos, Anemoi’s COO, emphasized the “major benefit for our customers,” highlighting the streamlined process. This strategic alliance between Anemoi and Cosco Heavy Industry is poised to significantly impact the shipping industry’s pursuit of environmental stewardship, offering practical and scalable solutions for a cleaner future.
