Ammonia Bunkering Propelled in US, Europe for Green Fuel | Mariner News

Trust Score: 95

A significant stride towards decarbonizing global shipping is underway as TFG Marine, CF Industries, and Trafigura announce a strategic partnership to advance ammonia bunkering. This collaboration focuses on establishing robust supply chains for low-carbon marine fuel in the US Gulf Coast and Northwest Europe. The trio aims to facilitate the widespread adoption of ammonia as a cleaner, more sustainable shipping fuel, addressing the maritime industry’s critical need for eco-friendly alternatives.

Driving Green Ammonia Supply

Under the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), CF Industries will leverage its extensive low-carbon ammonia production capabilities, particularly from its Donaldsonville, Louisiana, complex. Trafigura contributes its profound expertise in global commodity logistics and market development for cleaner fuels. TFG Marine, majority-owned by Trafigura, will manage the critical aspects of marine fuel bunkering, coordinating demand and transporting ammonia to key hubs.

Accelerating Sustainable Shipping Fuel Adoption

This strategic alliance builds upon existing cooperation, creating a comprehensive framework for market development and bunkering logistics. By overcoming current limitations in fuel availability, the partners are paving the way for ammonia to become a viable and widespread marine fuel option. This initiative not only supports the ambitious decarbonization goals of the global maritime sector but also positions these key regions as pioneers in sustainable shipping, ensuring a greener future for oceanic transport.
